what is morse code?

Morse code is a method of transmitting information through sequences of short and long elements, commonly known as "dots" and "dashes," that has been in use for over 160 years. It was developed by Samuel F.B. Morse in the early 1840s to communicate letters, numbers, punctuation and special characters through the telegraph that could be easily read by humans.

The name Three Dot Dash is significant since the telegraph was the first form of communication that sent a message faster than someone could move – and farther than someone could see. The spirit of Three Dot Dash is to give the same speed and amplification to projects and message of peace coming from youth all around the world – achieving victory for peace.

What is the Three Dot Dash Initiative?

Three Dot Dash is a global initiative of the We Are Family Foundation® designed to recognize and support the efforts of teen leaders around the world who are actively working on projects that promote a more peaceful society by addressing issues related to basic human needs: food, water, health, shelter, safety, education and the environment.

Inspired by the late 13-year-old poet and peacemaker Mattie J.T. Stepanek, Three Dot Dash is an innovative year-round leadership and mentoring program that teaches teen leaders how to "tell their stories" effectively using various forms of media, current technology and distribution methods.

Three Dot Dash creates a sustainable worldwide network of individuals, corporations and nonprofit organizations to further the efforts of young leaders by harnessing the power of media, mentoring, and social networking to foster public participation around the globe.
